Research Programs in Mathematics
This is a general survey of research programs in Mathematics. We start with the 'Erlangen Program' initiated by Felix Klein in 1872. We briefly discuss some of the main ideas of 'Hilbert Program' (called Hilbert problems) in David Hilbert address to the International Congress of Mathematicians in 1900.
Then we give a very rough idea of the 'Langlands Program' proposed by Robert Langlands (1967), pushed by discoveries of Emil Artin and Erich Hecke. The other important programs include classification programs such as 'Classification of Finite Simple groups' in 1972 (Daniel Gorenstein, Richard Lyons and Ronald Solomon), 'Classification of Von Neumann Algebras' (1936) (John Von Neumann, Francis Murray, Masamichi Takesaki, Alain Connes), and 'Classification of Separable Simple Nuclear Unital C*-algebras' (1993) (Ola Bratteli, James Glimm, George Elliott), of which we give only a glimpse

عنوان سخنرانی : Chebfun for numerical computing with function in 1D, 2D, and 3D Floating point numerics and symbolic computations are two well-known types of mathematical computing. The beauty of the latter, which uses infinite-precision real numbers, is that no rounding errors are occurred. There is however a penalty: its combinatorial complexity restricts the range of problems that can be solved in a reasonable amount of time. Floating point arithmetic, on the other hand, resolves the combinatorial explosion of symbolics by working with a discrete countable set of machine numbers, and rounding every result to 16 digits. The Chebfun toolbox for MATLAB, whose first version was introduced in 2004 by Battles and Trefethen at the University of Oxford, makes it possible to numerically compute with functions rather thannumbers. Itcombinesthespeedoffloatingpointarithmeticwiththefeelingofsymboliccomputing in the sense that one can use it to manipulate mathematical expressions very efficiently. In 2012, Chebfun was extended to two dimensions, and it was in 2016 when the speaker created Chefbun3 for numerical computing with trivariate functions defined on rectangular parallelepipeds. We present a quick overview of the Chebfun capabilities, and mathematical ideas behind it in one, two and three dimensions
